Uneven gardens are a challenge for many gardeners, but if you really like to deal with the problem, here are few tips on how to do it. In case you want to flatten your garden, this isn’t going to be as difficult as you thought.

Start with the grass and use a good weed killer. Usually the specialists recommend roundup, but if you are an organic gardener use only weed killers, based on eco clean ingredients.

The very next step is to hire a Rotovator, otherwise your garden will not flatten the way you want. You can also check out the local stores for a Rota-tiller, which is exactly the machine you need, but if you can’t afford it, stick to the rotovator.

The good turnover of the ground is very important, because it will put the oxygen back into the soil. The very next step is to find a wide landscaping rake and to spread the soil out. This will break any lumps out, in order to flatten your garden.

leveling groundThe soil also needs some care. If there are some turfs, you should pile them. The irregularities in the garden can be corrected not only by machine. You can dig or roll the soil and replace the turf. Then roll the grass sods with a roller. Water well the grass and keep rolling, until the surface is flattened.

After raking you should get some fresh topsoil and spread it over the garden. This is must because the topsoil contains nutrients and hence you will enrich the soil of your garden this way.

The beds of your plants should have pathways between them. Try to create wide pathways, just enough for a wheelbarrow. This way you will flatten the footing, while working.

The raised-beds also help in this case. Use rot-resistant lumber and make sure the beds are wide enough. They should be between 3-5 feet wide. Try not to waste the lumber by using halves. Their length should be 8-10 feet.

Of course there are many other ways to do all these things, in order to correct the uneven garden, but don’t forget – the right time to do it is the early spring. This is the time, when the grass is ready to grow.

You can try other ways, including digging up, turning over the soil and distributing evenly, but don’t forget that the soil should be enriched and taken care of. Use some special fertilizers after the flattening, in order to give a fresh start to your garden plants.
