The concept of home-grown vegetation and crops is not something new to people today. For centuries people have planted their own crops for different reasons such as saving money and self-sufficiency.
We must remember that during those times simple commodities such as those were as common as having your own pets in your house.
Today, we still follow the concept of a kitchen garden where we can grow our own vegetables and fruits to be made readily available for use.
There is no size restriction to owning a kitchen garden, as long as it is sufficient enough for you and you are able to plant everything you need; that’s what is important.
Just like in the old days, the fact that families are able to be self efficient with the basic necessities in nutrition is a good enough reason for them to continue the practice of a kitchen garden.
Healthy nutrition is a lifestyle that everyone should religiously follow. Especially today, with the growing number of stress related sicknesses and disease, it is important that healthy food is available for us at any time.
To be more specific, most kitchen gardens today have all sorts of crops grown in them. Basic ingredients such as basil, oregano, onions, tomatoes, and even fruits are the usual crops you will find in kitchen gardens. Basically, most of them could be categorized as cooking ingredients.
People may wonder why there is a growing population of families that grow their own crops through a kitchen garden. The answer is relatively simple; it has its advantages.
The basic advantages of having your own kitchen garden are as follows:
1. Environment friendly
Planting greens is always beneficial for both humans and the environment alike. Oxygen is produced by plants, and in general, creating your own kitchen garden promotes that purpose itself.
Crops grown here do not rely on chemical additives that are harmful to the crop, the consumer, and the environment. It promotes a good ecosystem in itself beneficial for other biological organisms along with the planted crop.
2. Promotes good health
The fact that kitchen gardens are grown naturally, one can be assured that no chemicals are added to promote long term sicknesses.
Basically, what you see is what you get, and it’s a good feeling to know that you are eating what you planted and can be assured of safety.
Creating your own kitchen garden saves you a lot of money. Instead of buying fruits and vegetables in the market, you can grow your own; therefore, saving you a lot of money.
Remember that healthy lifestyle is at high demand, so products that actually promote them have a high price tag on them.
For those interested, you should not worry at all on how you can make your own kitchen garden. You do not need a huge strip of land to come up with one.
You may segregate a small portion in your home for your own kitchen garden. If you do not have much space, then you can plant your crops in pots and other recyclable containers.
