Growing Edible Flowers In Your Garden

There are a lot of flowers that are edible and a lot more that are not edible.

You should never try to test which flower is edible by tasting them as this can be very detrimental for your health.

Even with edible flowers there are some parts that can’t be eaten as they can be very poisonous.

Identify which flower is edible and which parts of the flower can be eaten before you decide to put them in your mouth. Eating flowers is not such a strange idea considering the fact that people have been eating things like cauliflower and broccoli.

These are both forms of flowers. There is wide variety of flowers that you can grow in your own back yard, have your garden look nice and pluck once in a while to garnish your meals.

Perhaps the most popular flower that people eat is basil. There are different types of basils that you can grow in your garden. You can have them in a dazzling white, pale pink or lavender depending on which type you chose to grow.

To give your garden more color you can mix all forms of basil. This actually means that you can have different flavors for your salads in the future. Basil leaves are also edible and they taste more or less the same as the flowers, only that the flowers are milder.

Another flower that can make a great contribution to your garden as well as your dinner table is the rose. All roses are actually edible and their taste varies from one type to the other but basically they taste like strawberries and green apples. The darker the rose is, the more pronounced its flavor.

Lavenders look good in your garden and taste just as good. It has a sweet and floral taste with a hint of lemon and citrus. When you grow it in your garden with the intention of eating it in the future, make sure you do not spray it with any chemicals as that it is culinary unsafe. Lavenders are great for garnishing ice creams and many other desserts.

When growing edible flowers you must not use pesticides. But if it is necessary to spray your flowers then only use pesticides that are labeled specifically for the use of edible plants. Products that are not for edible crops can be very harmful to your health.
